A Spiritual Saint – Sant Ravidas Ji – (A Great Saint, Poet, Philosopher, Social Reformer and Spiritual Leader)

Once in a small village near Varanasi, A Great Saint of India, Sant Ravidas ji was born. From a young age, he showed deep devotion to God and kindness to all. Though he belonged to a low caste, he believed that all humans were equal in the eyes of the Divine.

One day, a wealthy Brahmin questioned his devotion, saying that only the high-born could attain spiritual wisdom. A Great Saint of India , Sant Ravidas ji smiled and replied, “God is not found in birth but in one’s deeds and devotion.” To prove his point, he dipped a simple leather shoe into the holy Ganga, and miraculously, the water turned pure and divine. The Brahmin was astonished and fell at his feet, realizing that true devotion knows no caste.

A Great Saint of India, Sant Ravidas ji continued to spread love, equality, and devotion through his teachings and beautiful hymns. His wisdom even reached the royal courts, inspiring many, including Queen Jhalanabai. To this day, his message of unity and love echoes in the hearts of millions.

“Man changa to kathauti mein Ganga” (If the heart is pure, even a small vessel holds the sacred Ganga).

Birth: In 15th to 16th century CE at Seer Goverdhanpur, Varanasi, U.P.

Father: Shri Santokh Dass Ji

Mother: Smt. Kalsa Devi Ji

Wife: Smt. Lona Ji

Son: Vijay Dass Ji

Death: in Varanasi in 1540 A.D.

Sant Ravidas Jayanti is celebrated every year on Magh Purnima on full moon day of Magh month in all over India

This Year 2025, It will be (648^th) Sant Ravidas Jayanti in 2025 and will be celebrated on  – 12^th of February (Wednesday)

1. God is One and Within All

A Great Saint of India, Sant Ravidas ji taught that there is only one God, and He resides in every living being, regardless of caste, religion, or status.

2. Equality and No Caste Discrimination

He strongly opposed the caste system and believed that all humans are equal. He taught that a person should be respected based on their actions, not their birth.

3. Inner Purity Over Rituals

He emphasized that a pure heart is more important than external rituals. True worship is through love, honesty, and selfless service. His famous saying:
“Man changa to kathauti mein Ganga” (If the heart is pure, even a small vessel holds the sacred Ganga).

4. Devotion (Bhakti) is the Path to Liberation

He was a strong advocate of Bhakti (devotion) as the simplest way to connect with God. He believed in Nama Simran (chanting God’s name) and selfless love for the Divine.

5. Honest Living and Hard Work

A Great Saint of India, Sant Ravidas ji set an example by continuing his profession as a cobbler while spreading spiritual wisdom. He taught that one should earn honestly and live a righteous life.

6. A Casteless Society – “Beggampura”

He envisioned an ideal society called “Beggampura”, where there is no discrimination, suffering, or fear, and everyone lives in peace and harmony.
